LIMOGES VINTAGE MONET PORCELAIN BOX ON EASEL – $240

Limoges Vintage Monet Porcelain Box on Easel is a limited edition, number 23/500. The underside of the box is also marked “Limoges France Peint main, as further confirmation of the authenticity of this Limoges box.” On the inside of the box it states, in French, “d’Apres Monet les Coquelicots d’Argenteuil 1875  Claude Monet à Giverny France.” Inspiration to create this box came from Claude Monet’s 1873 Impressionist painting, Les Coquelicots d’Argenteuil. In it, we can see two figures represent his wife, Camile, and their son Jean, standing in a field of vibrant orange colored poppy flowers. Argenteuil in the town in France where the artist lived with his family. The town was the setting where Claude Monet was inspired to paint this masterpiece and so many others.      

About 250 miles to the south of d’Argenteuil is the town of Limoges. Handmade and hand painted in France using Limoges porcelain. porcelain is manufactured here and then transformed by artists into Decorative items. since the middle of the nineteenth century up to the present, Limoges has been the world’s most dominant town for these activities. Boxes created from the porcelain have continued to be made. Historically, people have used them to carry snuff, and more recently, they are used to carry rings or pills. These objects d’art have become quite rare, as well as highly collectible. As in the case of this listing, for a vintage Limoges Porcelain Box inspired by the small town up in Northern France where Monet lived.

A dainty golden metal easel is included so that the Limoges can be displayed on it. There is a brass clasp on the edge of the hinged box to easily open and close it.

This miniature Monet measures 2 3/8″ H X 1 5/8″ W X 7/16″ D. The easel measures 3-3/4″ H X 1-3/4″ W X 1-1/2″ D. The Limoges box is in perfect preowned condition and shows no chips, cracks, imperfections, or visible wear. Its clasp and hinge work perfectly as well.
